Abstract:

One of the most important strategic decisions that affect the success of an organization, is to locate the facility in an appropriate place. Nowadays, increasing innovation level, decreasing product life cycle, and globalization lead to following design and manufacturing of products/services continuously with different goals and main factors such as risks have been considered in supply chains design. Facilities are characterized on a continuum spectrum from manufacturing facilities at one end and service facilities at the other end. In terms of trends in enterprise turn-over and gross domestic products (GDP) of nations, service industries play an increasingly more important role than their manufacturing counterparts.

Since during designing of the networks, the facilities may be unavailable because of disasters, destructive events (such electrical, energy, and etc), and lack of capacity, the network design should not be considered only based on economic goals and reliability concern should be regarded beside financial aspect of designing. In this manner, reliable facility location problem is an attractive issue. With regarding real world applications, there are various limitations in locating facilities which are the consequence of environmental and geographical factors. So, restricted facility location can be studied in this area. In other hand, increasing in competitiveness and impacts of elements such as price, lead time, quality of service, variety of products/services and etc leads companies to study the behavior of their customers accurately.  Hence, in this thesis reliability, queuing and pricing concepts are used in modeling the problem.

This thesis presents seven mathematical models for restricted facility location problem in which different aspects such as pricing, reliability; environmental concerns, uncertainty, and multiple services are provided. First and second models formulated reliable congested facility location problem (RCFLP). Third one presents congested location-pricing problem (CLPP). Fourth and fifth models developed multi-layer congested facility location problem (MLCFLP). Sixth one formulated multi-layer congested location-pricing problem (MLCLPP). The last model presented reliable congested location-pricing problem (RCLPP). A bi-objective non-linear integer mathematical model for reliable network service location problem with random demand. The concentration of this article is to present a new mathematical model in reliable facility location problem with immobile servers with congested regions. The goal is to find the facilities both inexpensive and also reliable. Therefore, a bi-objective mathematical programming model is presented in which total cost and reliability of system are simultaneously optimized. The aim is locating and assigning of m facilities among n demand nodes, the optimal price of servicing, determining the optimum number of servers in each facility and determining the capacity of facilities so that besides minimizing total cost, the maximum reliability, minimum lead time, minimum idle time and minimum destructive environment impacts can be achieved.

Since the proposed models are nonlinear integer programming models which are NP-hard and with respect to their complexity, several multi-objective metaheuristic algorithms such as Multi-objective Water Flow Algorithm (MOWFA), Multi-objective Vibration Damping Optimization (MOVDO) Algorithm, Multi-objective Harmony Search Algorithm (MOHSA), Multi-objective Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (MOICA), Multi-objective Non-dominated Ranking Genetic Algorithm (NRGA), Multi-objective Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II), Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA), Multi-objective Simulated Annealing (MOSA) Algorithm, simulation approach have been proposed. As the outputs of metaheuristic algorithms are strongly depend on input parameters, design of experiments, response surface methodology (RSM) and Taguchi method is used. Finally, to approve the efficiency of proposed models, these approaches have been analysed for several numerical examples with different size.

There are many real life applications of the proposed model such as: automated teller machines, communication networks, vending machines, local clinics, hospitals and medical centers, emergency medical service (EMS) systems, rescue helicopter locations, rescue centers, relief distribution centers and reconstruction center locations, education system consists of kindergartens, guidance schools and high schools, police stations, truck terminals, hotels, city logistics terminals, parks, bus stops, press delivery networks, locating post boxes, and the like.

Since the proposed model is NP-hard, a multi-objective water flow-like algorithm (MOWFLA) is presented to solve the model. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm, different test problems are first generated; then, multi-objective genetic algorithm as best-developed algorithm in the literature and GAMS software, integrating the objectives with LP-metric method, are applied to justify the applicability of the proposed MOWFLA. According to objective function values (OFVs) and computational time (CPUT) metrics, the results show that the proposed algorithm are capable to solve proposed congested facility location problem in large size problems.
