Abstract:
Distributed generations (DG) emerges from utilization of renewable energy resources (RES) in distribution networks. RES come in different types, controllable such as diesel generators, fuel cells and micro-turbines, and uncontrollable such as wind turbines and photovoltaic systems. RES along with energy storages, controllers, loads, and communication systems make a small low-voltage system, known as Micro-grid (MG), which is a significant and essential part of development of distribution networks. MGs operate in two different modes, namely connected where MG is connected to a grid via the point of common coupling (PCC), and autonomous, also known as islanded mode. In a grid-connected mode, the voltage and frequency of MGs are dictated by the main grid while in an islanded mode, DG units are responsible for frequency and voltage regulation though they manage active and reactive power at the same time.
In this thesis, all the factors, indices and objective functions are gathered to form a multi-objective optimization problem. The placement of DG sources with specified power factors is studied. The optimization problem is solved utilizing a hybrid optimization algorithms and game theory concepts. The PDE and HS-GA methods for the placement of DG units in MGs are proposed after the optimal DG locations were identified through the multi-objective function. This function included minimizing the network active power losses, improving the voltage profile and improving the voltage stability within the framework of network operation and security constraints. The DG contract prices were calculated using the game theory that represented equilibrium among the profit maximization pursued by the DG owner and the minimization of payments procured by the Disco.
Also, in this thesis, gives a novel hybrid optimization method to find optimal sitting and operation of an autonomous MG at the same time. The operation is optimized via finding the optimal droop gain parameters of DG units. The optimization problem is formulated as a multi-objective problem where the objectives are to minimize the fuel consumption of wind generators and to improve the voltage profile and stability of MG subject to operation and security constraints. A hybrid algorithm, named HS-GA, is developed to solve the paper optimization problem. A new formulation of power flow is derived to run the proposed algorithm where the steady state frequency of system, reference frequency, reference voltage and droop coefficients of wind generators, based on a droop controller, are considered as optimization variables.
A method for finding the optimal location and capacity of PHEVs charging stations along with the optimal location of RESs is proposed. A multi-objective function including charging/discharging costs, losses, and voltage profile is adopted to formulate the paper problem. DE algorithm is used to solve the proposed objective function. Finally, a novel method to address reliability and technical problems of microgrids (MGs) based on designing a number of self-adequate autonomous sub-MGs via adopting MGs clustering thinking is provided. In doing so, a multi-objective optimization problem is developed where power losses reduction, voltage profile improvement and reliability enhancement are considered as the objective functions.
