چکیده: Abstract: The current research aimed to investigate the impact of virtual education on maintenance and other expenses of universities. As a case study, the level of satisfaction of students and professors at Bu-Ali Sina University with virtual education during the COVID-19 pandemic was examined with the participation of 341 students and 45 professors from this university through a questionnaire. The questionnaire's validity was confirmed by experienced and expert professors, and its reliability was established using Cronbach's alpha test. The research method involved the use of descriptive statistics and the distribution of respondents' answers. To examine correlations and relationships between different results and charts, the SPSS software was employed for data analysis. Furthermore, the effects of virtual education on energy and water consumption in the university were also investigated. The results showed that despite the positive role of virtual education during this period, the level of satisfaction with virtual education in all aspects was moderate to low, indicating a need for improvement in these areas. Factors such as teaching quality, enhancing interactions between students and professors, and increasing learning motivation should be enhanced. It was also noted that students and professors agreed on the possibility of offering at least 30% of university courses through virtual platforms under normal circumstances, emphasizing the need for universities to plan and take advantage of the benefits of virtual education. The study revealed that the use of virtual education had a positive impact on reducing energy and water consumption in the university, resulting in significant cost savings, especially in the student services department. However, it was recognized that the extent of these cost reductions depends on the operational planning of virtual education. Although the direct impact of virtual education on reducing university expenses could not be accurately calculated due to the lack of an appropriate mathematical model, it requires further study with more extensive data. It is recommended that universities work on maintaining and expanding virtual education infrastructure while addressing its shortcomings. This not only facilitates university management but also reduces the university's need for physical spaces and adjusts its expenses. Additionally, the development of virtual education, along with reduced physical presence on campus, can improve the quality of student life. However, the realization of the benefits of virtual education depends on further research, particularly in terms of how courses are planned and delivered
