Abstract:
Interference fit are applied extensively to connect shaft and bush for industrial applications. Like other manufacturing processes, the production of these parts are associated with manufacturing defects. Understanding the effects of these defects on the behavior of interference joints can be important all industrial fields. For investigation on the effects of form and geometry errors on the characteristics of interference fit joints, two general viewpoints can be considered; first mechanical and statical point of viewpoint and second dynamic viewpoint. Here, the mechanical point of view, is considered the effects of form defects on joint strength and characteristics during the static performance but dynamics point of view is considered to vibrational and rotational behavior of system.
In this thesis, the effects of form defects on interference fit joints were investigation in two parts. In mechanical parts, the effects of production defects and variation of surface roughness in shaft parts, on extraction strength were investigated. Also, the effect of nickle-chrom plating of contact surface, on the characteristics of joints were investigated experimentally. It has been tried to model the geometry of shaft parts, precisely using an optic camera. Precise models of parts were analysied by finite element method. It has been tried to estimate friction coefficient of contact surface using experimental and finite element results. Also, after the extraction of joints parts, the excess of damage in contact surface were considered by a microscope. In part of investigation of the effects of form defects on vibrational behavior, it has been tried to derive a simple relation to anticipate separation frequency of interference fit joints. Then a test setup was designed and built to validate derived relation.
The values of friction coefficient in contact surface were derived and validity of extracted relation for separation frequency were investigated using experimental setup, too and results were reported in thesis.
