چکیده: Abstract: Design of vertical alignment of highway is one of the most important and complex engineering issues that can be very effective in reducing the costs of a road construction project. Considering the increase in the price of fuel, the limitation of energy resources and also the environmental issues caused by its high consumption, the main goal of this research is to find the optimal alignment between the two considered points, while considering the design limitations and reducing the cost of road construction (earthwork cost). to minimize vehicle fuel consumption and environmental pollution. Although these costs may not be very important from the point of view of road construction decision makers, the amount of fuel consumption from the point of view of road users and the environmental pollution from the point of view of the entire society affected by it are among the things that should be considered in the construction of a road. Considering the complexity of the stated problem and since the number of potential alignment between two points in the study space is very large, therefore, in this research, a multi-objective model based on meta-heuristic algorithms is presented in order to solve the optimization problem. In the presented model, the objective functions are defined based on the geometric characteristics of the vertical path, and finally, using MATLAB software and based on non-dominant sorting genetic algorithms (NSGA-II) and multi-objective particle swarm (MOPSO), the optimal vertical alignment of the road is determined. The meta-heuristic algorithms used in this research are among the most widely used and powerful algorithms available for solving multi-objective optimization problems, and their efficiency in solving various problems has been proven. In order to achieve better solutions, using the Taguchi test design method, the parameters of both algorithms were selected at their optimal level, and the algorithms were executed 30 times in the software environment, and the results of the two algorithms were compared using the evaluation indices of multi-objective algorithms. The results showed more efficiency of MOPSO algorithm, so MOPSO algorithm is suitable and efficient algorithm for solving the presented model. Finally, all the alignments designed by the provided software are smooth and workable based on the mentioned objectives and due to compliance with the road geometric design rules.
