چکیده: Abstract: The disadvantages of non-renewable energy, especially fossil fuels, and their role in global warming and environmental pollution, and also the focus on energy safety, have led to an increased tendency to develop renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources as an alternative to non-renewable energy. Wind energy is one of the sources of renewable energy and plays an important role in the global energy market. A wind turbine is an energy converter that converts wind kinetic energy into mechanical energy and then into electrical energy. In the last three decades, significant advances have been made in the design of wind turbines. Savonius turbine is one of the vertical axis wind turbines and compared to other turbines such as horizontal axis turbine and Darrieus turbine, it is able to produce energy at low wind speeds and has lower manufacturing cost. To investigate the effect of distance between two Savonius turbines on their performance, first a single Savonius turbine is investigated and its torque and power are obtained in three tip speed ratios which are 0.6, 0.8 and 1. Then in the case of two turbines, the turbines are placed at distances: 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.75, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 and 4 and the torque and power applied to each of them are examined in two states, namely the state without phase difference and the state with phase difference of 90 degrees. In addition, the lift coefficient and the drag coefficient of the turbines are also examined. Examining the diagrams, it was observed that as the distance between the two turbines decreases, in general, the total torque applied to the turbines increases, but at the same time, the oscillation coefficient of the lift coefficient and the drag coefficient of the turbines increase. But in general, at a distance of about 2 meters, the oscillation coefficient and drag coefficient of turbines will reach an acceptable level, and the total torque of turbines will be about 20% more than twice the torque of a single turbine.
