چکیده: Abstract: Metal sandwich structures have attracted a lot of attention in recent years and have found various applications in various industries. One of the important features of these structures is the high plastic deformation, which is important for energy absorption. In this study, the behavior of sandwich panel with one-directionally corrugated core and sandwich panel with bi-directionally corrugated core under compressive load has been investigated numerically and experimentally. The bi-directionally corrugated core consists of two sheets that are corrugated in two perpendicular directions. The sheet used to make sandwich panels is galvanized sheet, which was washed with acid to better connect the corrugated core and the top and bottom plates. The effect of tin coating removal on the mechanical properties of the sheets was investigated. This reduces the strength of the sheet. The amount of energy absorption for the panels is compared with each other. It was observed that the specific energy in the sandwich panel with bi-directionally corrugated core is about 21% more than the specific energy in the sandwich panel with one-directionally corrugated core. Sandwich panel with bi-directionally corrugated core was optimized to increase energy absorption capacity. According to the results obtained from the optimization, the increase in thickness does not definitely result in an increase in energy absorption. The core geometry of the sandwich panel is important in improving the amount of energy absorbed. Increasing the number of waves increases energy absorption. The optimized structure was constructed and subjected to pressure load. Then, the behavior of the sandwich panel with one-directionally corrugated core and the sandwich panel with bi-directionally corrugated core under three-point bending test were investigated numerically and experimentally. The sandwich panel with one-directionally corrugated core was bent under longitudinal and transverse directions. The bending stiffness of the two structures was compared. It was observed that the bending stiffness of the sandwich panel with bi-directionally corrugated core is about 75% higher than the bending stiffness of the sandwich panel with one-directionally corrugated core.
