چکیده: Abstract: Increasing demand for improving the efficiency and emission standards of automobile engines and using lightweight materials has become an important factor in the automotive industry. Aluminum alloys are 65% lighter than cast iron and due to the properties such as high corrosion resistance, high strength-to-weight ratio and high fracture toughnessare widely used in the automotive industry for manufacturing engine components such as cylinder heads and engine blocks. Although using aluminum alloys to manufacture engine blocks and cylinder heads have many advantages, it also involves important challenges during the manufacturing process. Residual stresses created by most of the manufacturing processes, including the production of the mentioned components change material properties and play a vital role in many failure mechanisms of components. Consequently, measuring residual stresses is a mandatory step while designing engineering parts and estimating their life under load. Although there are methods for measuring residual stresses, the geometrical complexities of engine components make it difficult to measure residual stresses in them. In the present study, the residual stresses induced in the cylinder head of internal combustion engine XU7 in different stages of its manufacturing process were experimentally and numeracally evaluated The results of this research showed that tensile residual stresses created through casting were high in magnitude . Moreover, investigating the of the effect of cylinder head immersion direction in different quenching modes revealed that quenching with vertical immersion direction creates better results. The experimental and numerical results are in good agreement
