چکیده: Abstract: Sandwich structures have been used in various fields such as packaging, civil, naval, automotive and aerospace industries due to their low mass to stiffness ratio and high impact absorption capacity. Composite corrugated panels are one type of sandwich structures consisting of two facing sheets, which are partitioned by a trapezoidal corrugated core. The corrugated core increases the moment of inertia of sandwich panel. Materials with structural hierarchy can have significantly higher stiffness or strength to weight ratios than their single-length scale microstructure counterparts. In this thesis, second order corrugated sandwich panels are considered and tested to determine the extensional and shear rigidity of them.Tensile and flexural characteristics of corrugated laminate panels were studied using numerical and analytical methods and compared with experimental data. Laminates of glass fiber plain woven were manufactured by using hand-layup. First, a series of flat tension tests were performed on standard samples to determine the material characteristics of composite. Next, the first and second order corrugated panels were manufactured and experimentally tested by implementing three-point bending test and force-displacement respons is obtained. The results reveal that the second order panel bear notable more bending force compared to first order ones. Due to the lack of analytical relation for the second sample, the experimental design (Taguchi) was used and the 3rd degree force formula was obtained from the mini-tab, which is well adapted. Once again, the optimal sample is obtained by considering the force and weight functions as the objective function. The results reveal that the second order panel bear notable more bending force compared to first order ones.
